Are you looking for an opportunity to really make a difference? Come and join our Fire and Rescue Service and help make a difference to the lives of our residents within West Sussex. We are currently seeking a Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) to join our team here in West Sussex.

As the Deputy Chief Fire Officer you will focus on and play a key part in the long term planning and transformation of West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service. You will be responsible for the day to day leadership and management of the service and support the Chief Fire Officer to ensure the service discharges its statutory obligations and duties, having regard to the Fire and Rescue National Framework and the needs of West Sussex people and communities.

To achieve this you will be responsible for the management of area teams as well as lead strategic programmes and projects, to ensure they are translated into outcomes, which improve performance and meet the Council’s strategic objectives.

You will provide strategic direction across all areas of the Service and the County Fleet department, ensuring service delivery is integrated within the wider organisational priorities and collective outcomes. In their absence you will also take up the responsibilities of the Chief Fire Officer.

As a member of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service’s Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for delivering the vision and strategic direction of the Fire and Rescue Service by leading and developing a highly effective and trusted service in an exciting landscape of transformation and change.

About you

You will have significant experience of working in a strategic, leadership role within a fire and rescue service and of successfully leading the delivery of strategic objectives and change programmes to improve outcomes for residents and staff.

As a transformational and inclusive leader, you will have a strong focus on performance and a proven ability to motivate and empower others, ensuring a high standard of service delivery which meets the needs of our communities. You will also have a proven ability to lead across a multi-agency environment and drive a culture of continuous improvement.

You will also possess recent experience of successfully leading the delivery of strategic objectives and business plans as well as experience of having worked at a senior level in a political environment. In addition you will have experience of successfully taking strategic command during a major incident/civil emergency.
