Head of Risk, Assurance and Operational Training (REF: HRAOT:NFRS)

We are seeking to appoint to a new strategic role within our leadership team to support us to deliver on our corporate objectives, and to take the lead on delivery of an integrated risk strategy. This role will encompass health, safety and environmental risk management, assurance processes and ensuring that our operational training systems and outcomes are aligned to support continuous organisational learning and deliver safe systems of work

This will require professional relevant qualification at degree level or higher, and experience of managing a risk function. You will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of legislation and regulatory requirements, and the ability to apply this in an effective and collaborative way. With an ability to analyse and interpret complex data, and to convert this into strategic actions, you will need high level interpersonal skills and the confidence to make your case to senior managers and elected members. As part of our senior leadership team, you will be expected to fully contribute to wider corporate issues, and to take forward a values-based performance management culture centred on improvement and transformation. You will also have a record of effective leadership and management, with experience of budgets, business planning, developing strategy and, most importantly, you will demonstrate high level people skills. As this is new role, you will have the autonomy and support to make a real impact and contribution to a critical emergency service.

Salary commences at £53,698, with progression to £59,565 after two years (subject to performance).

A 5% Out of Hours allowance is paid in addition to basic salary. Benefits include access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, membership of the Westfield health scheme, payment of professional fees, generous leave provision and a relocation package for candidates who are not currently resident in the county.
