NFCC Chair of On-Call Practitioner Group (REF: OCP)

Listed 24 August 2020

NFCC Chair of On-Call Practitioner Group

Expressions of interest are invited from Area and Group Managers or equivalent to take the role of the Chair of the On-Call Practitioner Group. The Practitioners Group is made up of representatives from across all UK FRS’s with an average of 60 members attending each quarterly meeting.

The role will report to the Strategic On-Call lead and will chair quarterly practitioner group meetings. The role will also report to NFCC project boards as necessary.

The On-Call practitioner group has developed over the last year from an information sharing platform to distinct regional working groups with specific references.  The groups have been assigned a lead, with key accountabilities and actions and feed into the practitioner and steering groups.  The groups are tasked with focusing on national issues rather than local FRS problems.  The groups are:

  • Recruitment
  • Retention
  • Learning and Development
  • Pay and contracts
  • Media and Marketing
  • Future Ways of Working

Through the chairs leadership, these groups advise NFCC project boards on national challenges that need discussion, decision and prioritisation for further work. They identify and share best practice from FRSs, support other NFCC work streams that have an impact/dependency on the on-call workforce and engage with talent from FRSs and make best use of skills that already exist within the group.

It is envisioned that the group will also be directed specific work regarding the current and any future on-call model as directed through the ‘Working Patterns’ project.

The role is aimed at AM/GM or equivalent with a deep understanding of the on-call model and the associated challenges.  We are looking for a leader who is a clear communicator and co-ordinator with strong stakeholder management skills who can turn strategic direction into action.

The anticipated workload would include chairing four practitioner groups and attending up to four project boards plus other occasional ad hoc meetings.

We ask that applicants make a commitment to the role of at least 18 months.
