An opportunity has arisen for wholetime and retained duty system (RDS) Crew Managers to join one of the country’s leading fire and rescue services. Eligibility
The following criteria must be satisfied to be eligible to apply:
- be a wholetime/RDS substantive and competent Crew Manager (or above) in a UK Fire and Rescue Service.
- possess an IFE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Service Operations AND Level 3 Certificate in Fire Engineering and Science OR Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety OR equivalent relevant qualifications
- have no current/outstanding development action plans, performance improvement action plans or capability issues related to competency.
- be free of current formal disciplinary awards throughout the entire process.
- have achieved a grade ‘A’ or ‘B’ score in your latest Personal Development Review (PDR) (internal candidates only)
The selection process will comprise of:
- Stage 1 – Identify potential via the PDR process (‘A’ or ‘B’ score) this only applies to internal applicants
- Stage 2 - Completion of an online application form and subsequent shortlisting
- Stage 3 - Presentation and Interview
- Stage 4 – Operational Command Development/Assessment
- Stage 5 – Pre-employment check

Shortlisting
Submitted application forms will be forwarded to the Shortlisting Panel for consideration. All applicants will be advised via the e-recruitment system whether or not they have been successfully shortlisted.
Presentation and Interview
As part of the selection process applicants will be required to undertake a 45 minute interview and prepare a 10 minute presentation, for which the title will be given beforehand. External candidates will be required to bring to interview their training records and qualifications.
Operational Command Assessment
If you do not possess a 'Skills for Justice Initial Incident Command' qualification you will be required to undertake an assessment in to ensure you can work to WYFRS protocols. In addition as part of this qualification applicants will be expected to complete the Skills for Justice Knowledge and 'Understanding elements 1- 6' achieved through an E-Learning portfolio. Applicants that fail to complete the E-Learning portfolio in the permitted timescales will be removed from the process.
Pre-Employment Checks
All offers of employment will be subject to a skills gap analysis, references, medical, fitness test, Disclosure and pre-employment checks.
