Secondment to NFCC People Programme: OD/HR Development Business Partner - NFCC Leadership Project

  • Secondment: six months
  • Scale: Equivalent to your current role

Expressions of Interest are invited from fire sector OD, HR & L&D or equivalent, to join the NFCC Leadership project team within the Central Programme Office, People Programme, on an initial six-month secondment opportunity with a possibility for an extension.

About the NFCC Leadership Project

The Leadership project has been commissioned to form a response to the challenges facing current and future leaders in the fire sector. Being adaptable to the evolving requirements of a modern fire and rescue service is key to our leadership and management focus for the future. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in supporting transformational change in leadership at a national level.  

The Leadership Project comprises of five key work streams:

  1. Direct Entry
  2. Talent Management (succession planning & 360 performance management)
  3. Supervisory Leadership Development Programme
  4. Coaching and Mentoring
  5. Code of Ethics

Work is already underway in these work streams, with established work stream members and scoping documents in place.

Purpose of the role

The role will involve supporting the work streams to help them progress against their objectives. You will use your skills and expertise to work with the team to develop guidance, facilitate workshops / group discussions and collaborate with stakeholders and other specialists to create the tools and products that will form the leadership hub.

About you

People are at the heart of what you do and how you do it.

You will already have a good understanding of the fire sector and the challenges of operational resourcing, and have worked in OD, HR & L&D functions (or equivalent).

You will have an innovative mindset and confident to present your ideas, offer challenge and nurture others to contribute their own. This role offers you the chance to be a catalyst for change, influencing and shaping how UK FRS identifies, acquires, develops and retains talented people for all roles in our diverse Services – enabling Services to unlock the potential in all of their staff, ensuring the right leaders are equipped with the right skills and behaviours, and in the right roles at the right time.

You are a great networker and will build on your existing network of contacts by creating new relationships with subject matter experts both within the NFCC project teams, across UKFRS and with partners and other external organisations and academics.

This is about building on what we know works well and creating something even better – you will be at the forefront of establishing best practice for our sector, helping Services to deliver more for their staff and the communities they serve.

You have a good understanding of industry best practice in leadership and understand the needs of operationally focused development. You can demonstrate a commitment to your own continuous professional development. Having a CIPD qualification (HR or L&D) is desirable but not essential.

You have a clear understanding how this secondment will benefit your own career development and how you will take the experience back to your own service.
