Station Manager – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Rescue Services (REF: SM-HIWFRS)

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Rescue Services have identified a number of future temporary and permanent positions at Station Manager level. We are creating an appointable talent pool to recruit to both temporary and permanent vacancies. We anticipate that this Appointable Talent Pool will last for two years.

The selection processes will be evidence based, and we recommend you discussing this with your current line manager prior to completion, who will be required to support your application.  

To apply for the Station Manager position you must meet the below pre-requisite requirements: 

  • Substantive and competent Watch Manager (Grey Book).
  • Qualified at Initial Command level or ICS level 1 (WM 7).
  • Have a full driving license.
  • Live or provide a base within county borders when on duty.
  • Must not be subject to a live capability or disciplinary warning at any point of application process up to appointment.
  • If successful, any external applicants will be required to complete a full HFRS/IWFRS intermediate command assessment together with fitness and medical test, before appointment would be offered/confirmed.
  • It is an expectation that due to the requirements of our organisational managerial and operational resilience, that successful applicants will be operating on our Flexible Duty System rota.
  • Applicants must be able to attend the Promotion Board Approx. 2.5 hours in the week of 13 July – 24 July. No dates past these specific weeks will be given.

  • 25 May - 14 June 2020 - Portal open to receive applications.
  • 14 June 2020 at 23:59 - Application Portal Closes.
  • 15 June 2020 - Applications will be sent to identified line managers for comment on each question and overall comment on suitability.
  • 19 June 2020 at 12:00pm - Deadline for receiving line manager comments.
  • 22 - 26 June 2020 - Shortlisting and Moderation.
  • 29 June 2020 - The recruitment team will confirm if candidates have been successful at the application stage and invite them to book themselves onto a Promotion Board via the portal. Further information regarding promotion board will be included.
  • 13 - 24 July 2020 - Promotion Board (2.5 hours) to include: Interview, Command Test of Potential, In-tray Exercise and Presentation. No dates past this specific week will be given. Moderation concluded at the end of the week.
  • During the week of 27 July 2020 - the results will be communicated and feedback provided to all as requested.
