Watch Manager B Protection - Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service (REF: WM:CFRS)

£35,275 - £38,611 + up to £10,000 relocation package 42 hours per week Cheshire West (Chester) or Cheshire East (Crewe)

Listed 13 August 2020

Two opportunities have arisen for permanent Watch Manager B positions within the Protection and Organisational Performance department.

Fire Protection of buildings is an interesting and complex science which in the advent of the Grenfell fire and more local incidents such as Beechmere, has placed the focus very much on Protection so it’s an exciting time to join our team.

Reporting to the Station Manager B – Protection, the posts will play a key role in the management and leadership of a protection team. The successful candidates will supervise, mentor and support other members of the Fire Protection and Organisational Performance Department in order that they maximise their potential, develop their skills and improve their performance.  Candidates must possess a comprehensive knowledge of fire protection including experience of auditing non-domestic premises.

Within this role you would be working with a wide range of people and partners and be responsible for managing a team as well as being inspecting and preparing reports for commercial buildings, enforcing Fire Safety legislation through risk based assessment and working to achieve a safer community.

These positions will provide an excellent opportunity for individuals who are seeking a role within the organisation where no two days are the same.  For those seeking future career progression it provides additional skills, qualifications and experience to be gained in a functional role. The skills obtained are universally recognised in industry.

The successful candidates will possess an understanding of the issues relating to the fire and rescue service, be committed to diversity, inclusion and staff engagement. They will also be required to demonstrate competence against the “Leading Others” element of the NFCC Leadership Framework, demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a high performing team in accordance with the Service’s core values.

If successful you will work a 5 day 42 hour duty system with working flexibility.  No nights, no weekends and enhanced flexibility and opportunity to take leave as well as working a flexi time system providing additional leave and flexibility.
This opportunity is open to internal and external candidates who are competent Crew Managers and includes Firefighters who have achieved and maintained competence at the Crew Manager level in a temporary role.

Applications are also invited from substantive Watch Managers looking to transfer into Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service from another FRS.

As this is a key role in the Protection Department successful applicants must be competent in fire safety to L4 Diploma or equivalent.

Whilst aptitude, skills and experience are key requirements, academic ability is also important and it is expected that applicants will have achieved the IFE Level 3 Diploma Unit 6: Fire Service Operations and Incident Command paper and/or a fire related degree.

Applicants should apply through the Service’s 2020 Watch Manager promotion board process, details on apply button below.

Due to the current situation with COVID-19 and social distancing requirements, we will not be including a Written or Group Assessment in this year’s process.  The selection process will however comprise of three elements each representing a gateway so only those successful at each stage will progress throughout the process.
