Carbon Monoxide lead

We are inviting expressions of interest to take up the role of Carbon Monoxide (CO) Lead.

The role sits under NFCC’s Home Safety Committee working closely with the industry and partners to promote the use of CO detectors and raise awareness of the dangers of CO exposure.

The role would suit an FRS professional with a passion for prevention work, comfortable dealing with partners, stakeholders and representing the NFCC in the media. The role would be most suited to an individual either working towards, or at, Group Manager (equivalent) level or above.

Working to support the existing NFCC Position Statement, the role will be expected to represent NFCC at the All Party Parliamentary CO Group to support their work and the work of industry leaders.

You will develop, establish and promote consistent CO messaging across the fire and rescue service, and be aware and able to act upon emerging trends and concerns in relation to CO.

You will promote existing legislation but also lobby for improvements if and where necessary to standards, regulation and guidance.

You will work closely, where appropriate, with other NFCC lead officers to ensure the success of the NFCC Prevention Strategy.

You must have agreement from your line manager to commit to the role.

This is a voluntary position undertaken alongside your current role.

If you would like to know more about the role please contact DCFO Rick Hylton (NFCC Home Safety Lead) at

If you are interested in this role please email a short expression of interest to Rick Hylton, Deputy Chief Fire Officer for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service by midday on Thursday 24th June 2021.
