We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our small multi-skilled 24/7 Fire ICT team as an Apprentice Fire ICT Systems Engineer to help us meet the increasing demands for technology with our innovative Fire and Rescue Service. Systems you deliver and support will be used by operational crews and other fire personnel to deliver emergency and day to day services to the public.

As an Apprentice Fire ICT Systems Engineer, you will undertake the Level 3 Information Communications Technician (ICT) (ST0973) apprenticeship standard. You will be fully supported through the apprenticeship by your tutor(s) and receive regular mentoring, support and guidance from your line manager and the wider team.

Your responsibilities
  • Form a productive part of the Fire ICT team, gaining on the job knowledge whilst undertaking your apprenticeship.
  • Work on the Service Desk, recording and investigating cases, as well as being involved in delivering solutions and developing new work.
  • Use a range of tools and techniques to resolve issues, from network analysis software to hands-on building of racks and servers.
  • Actively seek to gain knowledge in the various disciplines, including knowledge transfer from other employees.

You will need

Candidates will need to demonstrate that they have prior knowledge and experience in ICT. Ideally, you will have or expect to achieve 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above including Maths and English. It is a requirement that you pass a Level 2 Functional Skills assessment in both English and Maths during your apprenticeship.

This programme should take up to two years to complete. A permanent position is likely to be available at the end of the apprenticeship for the right candidate.
