A number of NFCC's People Progamme consultations are now open

There are a number of consultations being run by NFCC's People Programme, which are now seeking your views.

NFCC Direct Entry Scheme consultation

This is open until Friday 15 October 2021. It provides an opportunity to give feedback on the proposed training programme (Executive Summaries) that a Direct Entrant at Station and Area Manager level would undertake.

NFCC is actively encouraging all fire and rescue services and other external stakeholders to take part in this consultation to ensure we deliver the best, quality assured training programmes. To ensure that we can reach everyone with this consultation, please share this link with anyone you think might be relevant to help shape the programme.

Three workshops will be held during the consultation process. The idea behind the workshops is to gather ideas and feedback that will inform the Station and Area Manager Direct Entry development programmes.

The sessions will take place on the following dates via Teams:

  • Tuesday 21 September 10:30 – 12:30
  • Tuesday 5 October 10:00 – 12:00
  • Tuesday 12 October 10:00 – 12:00

Project Executive Rod Hammerton (CFO Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service) and Sean Taylor, NFCC OD/HR Business Partner will be answering questions.

Staff can register for a time and date of their choosing by clicking here.

In addition to the three consultation workshops, members of operational staff are invited to join in an open conversation session.

There are two sessions, taking place via Teams, but staff need only attend one. Staff don’t need to have attended one of the consultation workshops to attend this session.

  • Thursday, 14 October 2021 at 12:30 – 14:00
  • Wednesday 3 November 2021 at 18:00 – 19:30

Those interested in attending should contact

NFCC Coaching and Mentoring National Portal consultation

This will run until Thursday 14 October 2021. The National Portal is an online portal that can be easily accessed by members of the fire sector (coachees and mentees) who wish to connect to talented coaches and mentors across the sector. Using coaches from other services, it brings a different perspective and gives a wider base of experience that can help identify good practices from outside a service. The portal will be launched at the end of April / May 2022.

Although targeted at HR/OD specialists, it is open to all. Please share with your fire service colleagues; responses to this consultation are important to us as it will help shape how the portal is developed and used by the fire sector.

NFCC Supervisory Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) consultation

The overall purpose of a national SLDP is to achieve consistent development of our first line leaders across FRSs, measured against the NFCC Leadership FrameworkCore Learning Pathways and the Core Code of Ethics

Supervisory leadership is a critical point in a person’s career where they begin to develop their leadership styles. Fostering positive behaviours born out of self-analysis have a transformative effect on these individuals and leadership within the fire sector. Having a nationally agreed standard and consistent development programme at this level would create a standardised leadership pipeline and highlight those with high potential at this early stage.
